Elizabeth M. "Betty" Goldsmith, 83, of Bethesda, Md., formerly of Ramona, died on July 19, 2008, at her home. Elizabeth Cassutt was born on Oct. 31, 1925, at Ramona to George A. and Edith Oertli Cassutt. She was raised in Winona, Minn. On Aug. 3, 1957, she married Francis J. Goldsmith in Baltimore, MD. She graduated from the College of St. Teresa in Winona, Minn., with a bachelor of arts degree and from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill with a master of arts degree in nutrition. She was last employed at District of Columbia General Hospital in Washington, D.C., as a nutritionist. She was an active member of American Dietetic Association and National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association. Survivors include three sons, Francis Jr. (Haruko) of Honolulu, Hawaii, George (Marie) of North Potomac, Md., and Brian (Deborah) of Folsum, Calif.; a daughter, Elizabeth (Gary) Palmer of Ocean Pines, Md.; and seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and only sister, Henrietta Hittner. A memorial Mass was held at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Bethesda, Md., on July 26. A memorial service and internment will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery at Winona, Minn., on Aug. 23. Madison Daily Leader 08/06/2008
