Deceased Name: Ernest Hindley, Jr. Many years and hard work caught up with Ernest Hindley Jr., Dec. 13, 1997. A direct descendent of Utah pioneer stock, he was born July 22, 1904 in American Fork, Utah to James Ernest and Emily Hoggard Hindley. Educated in American Fork, he was a cheerleader or "yell master" all three years he attended American Fork High School. He eloped and secretly married Melba Cook of Cedar Valley, Utah in Nephi, Utah August 24, 1928. The marriage was kept secret for a year because she was an elementary school teacher with a "no marriage" clause contract. Ernest was a farmer and stock grower his entire life. He once harvested an excellent crop of oats in early December. The seeds had been planted, on a bet, the previous July 29th. Always honest, feisty, and a little cranky, he will be remembered for a life of hard work and attentive devotion to his wife, particularly in her last years and to his daughter who needed constant care. He was preceded in death by Melba and a daughter, Bonnie Jean . He is survived by three children, James and (Ruby) Hindley, Fort Collins, CO; Linda Lou Hindley, Lindon, UT; Earl and (Edy) Hindley, Salt Lake City; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren. A tribute to Ernest will be held Thursday, Dec. 18, 1997 beginning at 11 a.m. in the Wing Mortuary chapel, 118 E. Main, Lehi, Utah, where friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until time of services.
