Bio

Thelma Ivy Ainsworth, age 93, of Arlington, Texas, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 9, 2025. Thelma was born in Angelina County and raised in rural East Texas, where she developed the strong values and love of the outdoors that would stay with her throughout her life. In 1947, she married Medford E. Ainsworth. Though they had no children, Thelma devoted herself to her family as a loving wife and homemaker. She found joy in visiting loved ones, tending her flower beds and vegetable garden, and keeping her yard and lawn in pristine condition. Her love for the outdoors led her to travel across the United States, visiting historical sites, national parks, and monuments. On every journey, she was always on the lookout for a new place to fish — a favorite pastime that reflected her appreciation for nature and quiet reflection. Thelma was known for her deep faith in God and unwavering devotion to the service of Jesus Christ. She was a loving, strong, and wise woman whose life reflected her spiritual convictions and her commitment to living with grace and purpose. She was preceded in death by her parents, Marshall Ivy and Lillian Layton Ivy; her brothers, Edmund Earl Ivy and C.V. Ivy; her sister, Charlene Ivy Toerck; and her niece, Edna Marie Ivy. Thelma is survived by her beloved nieces and nephews: Barbara Lynn Ivy Innerarity, Sharon Ivy Mathews, Sheila Luckey, Keith Ivy, Gary Ivy, Paula Murphy, Charlotte Toerck, Daryl Toerck, and Mark McDonald. Her memory lives on in the hearts of her 18 great nieces and nephews, 41 great-great nieces and nephews, and 21 great-great-great nieces and nephews — a legacy of love and family that spans generations. Visitation will be held on Monday, October 20, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Moore Funeral Home in Arlington, Texas. A second visitation will take place on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Gipson Funeral Home, located at 1515 South Chestnut in Lufkin, Texas, followed by a funeral service at 3:00 PM. Thelma will be laid to rest in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park in Lufkin. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
