Bio

Anita (Barnes) Rayner, 92, of Crothersville, IN, passed away peacefully on August 12, 2025, at Covered Bridge in Seymour, IN. She was born on June 18, 1933, the daughter of Harold Barnes and Georgia (Buckles) Faulds. Anita was a proud 1951 graduate of Arsenal Technical Schools in Indianapolis, IN. That same year, on August 8, she enlisted in the United States Navy, serving her country with dedication and honor until her honorable discharge on July 27, 1954. In 1972, Anita married Fred Rayner, in Galveston, TX. They shared 24 beautiful years together before his passing in 1996. Anita retired from the United States Postal Service after a long and devoted career, serving as Postmaster in Port Bolivar, TX. Anita's life was marked by her faith, service, and the joy she found in the simple pleasures. She was a member of Solid Rock Community Church, attended Victory Tabernacle, and was active in the Disabled American Veterans Association. A spirited sports fan, she never missed a chance to cheer on the Houston Astros or the University of Kentucky Wildcats. She was preceded in death by her son James Paul Compton and her brothers Roger Barnes and Ray Dean Barnes, and 1 sister Delores Foster. Pastor Mike Shuler will conduct funeral services at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at Adams Family Funeral Homes & Crematory in Crothersville, IN, with burial to follow at Cana Cemetery. Family and friends may gather for visitation from 11:00 AM until the time of service. Memorial donations may be made in Anita's honor to the Wounded Warriors Project.
