Bio
Services for Hern Pettigrew, 88, of Slaton, will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Slaton's First Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Slaton's Englewood Cemetery under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service in Slaton. Mr. Pettigrew was born March 15, 1920, in Dumas. Hern attended school in Justiceburg and Post. Hern retired from the Santa Fe Railroad after 44 years. He farmed and ranched in Justiceburg. Hern was a veteran of WWII serving in the US Navy and a lifetime member of Slaton's VFW. He was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church, BLE Union and the Retired Railroaders Club. Hern married Jimmie Clarkston on Aug. 9, 1941 in Post. Hern died Friday, July 25, 2008. A daughter, Patsy Tanner, preceded him in death on June 24, 2007. Hern's survivors are his wife, Jimmie; daughter; Ronda Wheeler of Colorado; grandchildren, Patrick Wheeler, Lynn Wheeler, Amy Cornelius, and Jennifer Winkleman; six great-grandchildren; and sisters, Gladys Morgan, Geneva Crowley and Evelyn Rhea; and numerous nieces and nephews.
