Funeral services for Clabe Alford Smith, 56, of Cushing will be at 2 p.m. Monday, July 28, 2008, at the Dickie Allen Funeral home Chapel in Cushing with Bro. Jack Orbison and Bro. Wayne Livesay officiating. Burial will be in the McKnight Cemetery in Cushing. Mr. Smith passed away Friday, July 25, 2008 at his home in Cushing after a courageous battle with colon cancer. Alford was born December 17, 1951 in Nacogdoches, Texas to Robert Alford and Dorothy Stripling Smith. He worked for James Ham logging for many years and previously worked with his father at the Sacul Woodyard. He was a member of the Cushing Church of Christ. Alford was known as "Fonz" to many of his friends and was an avid sportman. He was a member of the Nacogdoches Skeet Club for five years. He was preceded in death by father, Robert Smith and brother, Jeff Smith. Survivors include, wife, Joann Smith of Cushing, Texas; sons and daughters-in-law, Vance and Brenda Smith of The Colony, Texas and Brad and Tamara Smith of Mansfield, Texas; Daughter and son-in-law, Stacy and Michael Shepperd of Lake Striker, Texas; mother, Dorothy Smith of Nacogdoches, Texas; brothers and sisters-in-law, Allen and Sheila Smith, Barry and Mary Smith and Gabe Smith, all of Nacogdoches; sisters and brother-in-law, Cathy and John Carmichael of Henderson, Texas and Missy Cortes of Nacogdoches, Texas; and grandchildren, Josh Smith, Ashley Smith, Allison Ward, Connor Ellis and Tanner Smith. Pallbearers will be Nathan Gresham, James Ham, Steve Ivy, Steve Doughty, James Barnes & Jimmy Pace.
