Bio
Ray Nell Law Guynn passed away peacefully Wednesday at E. T. York Haven Hospice at the age of 79. She was a daughter of the late Rayford Alton Law and Avis Norene Law. Ray Nell moved to Gainesville at a young age and graduated from Gainesville High School, Class of 1963. In her early career, she worked at J.M. Fields Department Store before beginning a long and dedicated career with the University of Florida, retiring from the Division of Housing and Residence Life, now the Department of Housing and Residence Education. Ray Nell enjoyed the simple pleasures of life – she loved fishing, reading and, in her younger years, found joy in gardening, crocheting and cross stitch. Above all, she cherished her family and the life she built with them. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Leah Norene Riddle, in 1999. Ray Nell is survived by her devoted husband of 62 years, William Dale Guynn; two sons, Robert Allen Guynn and Troy Lawrence (Merissa) McMichen Jr.; two beloved grandchildren, Tara Deanna Guynn of Dalton, Georgia, and Cody Garrett Riddle of Gainesville; her sister, Jo Ann (Tony) Parris of Ocala; and her brother, Martin Asa Law of Mayo. Visitation was held Monday evening, July 14, 2025, at Williams-Thomas Funeral Home Downtown in Gainesville. Graveside services were held at 10 am Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at Forest Meadows Memorial Park East in Gainesville. Williams-Thomas Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
