Betty Varner Monasco December 5, 1943 — July 9, 2025 Gilmer Croley Funeral Home Betty Varner Monasco, 82, passed away on Wednesday, July 9, 2025 at a local nursing facility. Betty was born in Gilmer, Texas on January 25, 1943 to Arthur O'Neal Hitt and Ola Vertice Wyatt. Betty is survived by her sons, Curtis Wayne Wells, and wife Hwan of Bossier City, LA and Rodney William Wells and wife Dine of Granbury, TX, grandchildren, Kimberly, Hannah, Rodney Jr., Angela, and 6 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, brother, John Brookshire and Gay Lynn Varner who was the love of her life. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Croley Funeral Home in Gilmer. Following her cremation, Betty will be buried at Oak Hill Cemetery in Upshur County next to Gay Lynn Varner. A memorial service in her honor, led by Ronnie Shipman, will be planned at a later date.
