Rosalie 'Rose' Antonia Shimek Rosalie "Rose" Antonia Shimek, age 93, of Seguin, passed away on June 13, 2025. Rose was born on September 10, 1931 in La Grange, Texas to Frieda (Staacke) and Joseph Paul Vecera. Rose was from a large family being the fourth child of nine. She was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith. Rose graduated from St John Catholic High School in 1948. She met Otto E. Shimek while working at the bus station in Schulenburg and they married on June 17, 1952 after he returned from his tour of duty in Korea. A week later they drove from Schulenburg to Fort Smith, Arkansas enjoying only fritos and Dr Pepper. They lived there briefly while Otto finished his service in the army and when he was released in September, they returned to Texas. With the help of family, they built a home in Seguin where they spent the rest of their lives enjoying their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
