Norfolk Daily News 7/19/2008 10:16:00 AM Koepke Lester Koepke NORFOLK - Services for Lester H. P. Koepke, 87, Norfolk, will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday here at Our Savior Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Norfolk. Military rites will be by American Legion Post 16 and VFW Post 1644. Visitation will be Sunday from 3 to 8 p.m. at Home for Funerals. Mr. Koepke died on Wednesday, July 16, 2008, at the Norfolk Veterans Home. --- Lester Herbert Paul Koepke was born on April 15, 1921, in Wayne County on a farm, son of the late Otto and Ida (Grimm) Koepke. He was baptized on May 1, 1921, by the Rev. Herman Spuring and confirmed on June 30, 1935, by the Rev. E.H. Boelling at Zion Lutheran Church northwest of Hoskins. He attended District 77 Wayne County rural school. He married Irene Uttecht on April 15, 1942, at Zion Lutheran Church, Hoskins, by the Rev. E. H. Boelling. He then served in the armed forces during World War II from Oct. 8, 1942, to Jan. 14, 1944, serving in Hawaii and Kansas. He returned to farming and was a livestock feeder in Wayne County. A past member of Zion Lutheran Church, he served in several positions and on several boards. He also served on a rural school board. Lester retired in 1983 and the couple moved to Norfolk in November 1987 and joined Our Savior Lutheran Church. He was a member of Lutheran Laymen's League and served on the counting board. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 1644 and a member of American Legion Post 16. Lester is survived by his wife Irene of Norfolk, one son and his wife Larry and Diane Koepke of Hoskins, one daughter Sharon Koepke of Denver, Colo., four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and their wives.
