Bio

Shirley Cormier Jupe passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at the age of 90. She was born on November 3, 1934, to Wilfred and Ruth Cormier. Shirley spent her early school years as St. Teresa's Academy, where she was active in tap dancing, piano recitals and the St. Teresa's drum and bugle corps, serving as their mascot. She continued her tap dancing as she grew older, becoming a performer in the 1950's USO shows that entertained military troops. She later attended St. Gerard's Catholic High School, where she was a cheerleader. Outside of school, she was selected to represent the San Antonio area in a nationwide television Teen Queen beauty contest. One month after her high school graduation, she married her high school sweetheart, Gene Jupe, on June 28,1952, at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church. Throughout her life, Shirley was actively involved in her community. While living in San Antonio, she helped with Little League during the many years her three sons played. She cherished all the sports her children participated in and was their biggest fan. She was also a member of the Highland Social Club Bowling League, where she, Gene, and the kids would bowl once a month together with other Jupe Family members. When she and Gene moved their family to Atascosa County, she continued her love for bowling by joining several women's leagues. It wasn't uncommon for Shirley to bowl a perfect score of 300. After settling into her new home in Atascosa County, Shirley began serving at St. Matthew's Catholic Church as a Eucharistic minister and volunteered at many church picnics and fundraisers. She and her husband also greatly supported St. Andrew's Our Lady of Grace Catholic School and attended church there quite frequently as well. In her later years, she joined Senior Circle, where she served as an ambassador, taught line dancing, volunteered at the hospital gift shop, and enjoyed casino trips as well as traveling to various places throughout the United States. Shirley also had a passion for the outdoors and became an avid deer hunter, proudly displaying several impressive mounts in her home, with her bobcat mount being her most prized. Though above else, her most treasured moments were those spent with family, especially in her cherished role as "Granny" to her grandchildren and their friends. She delighted in taking them on shopping adventures to Dollar General and Walmart, ensuring they never left empty-handed. Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Jupe; daughters, Jeannine Marie Jupe and Cheryl Lynn Jupe; and her parents, Wilfred and Ruth Cormier. A visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at Hurley Funeral Home, from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Services are scheduled for Thursday, June 26, 2025 at St. Jerome Catholic Church, located at 7955 Real Road, San Antonio, Texas 78263, starting with a visitation at 9:00 am, a reciting of the rosary at 9:30 and a celebration of mass at 10:00 am. Following the services, Mrs. Jupe will be laid to rest next to her husband at St. Jerome Catholic Cemetery, located at the corner of FM 1516 and Real Road. Posted at: Hurley Funeral Home June 2025
