Shirley Elizabeth Dunaway Thompson March 4, 1942 – March 28, 2025 Shirley Elizabeth Dunaway Thompson was born on March 4, 1942, in Trinity, Texas, to John Thomas Dunaway and Bertie (Hilton) Dunaway. She passed away peacefully on March 28, 2025, at her residence in Friday, Texas, surrounded by her loving family. Shirley had a deep love for the Lord and was a devoted member of Trinity Tabernacle Assembly of God Church, where she instilled in her children the importance of faith and walking with God. Her love for her family was unwavering, she always put them first in everything she did. Shirley found joy in the simple pleasures of life: taking her children to the beach, camping, shopping outings, and tending to her yard, which she took immense pride in keeping beautiful. She especially enjoyed mowing the lawn and being outside. At the heart of Shirley's life was her beloved husband of fifty years, Robert Clifford Thompson. Their love story began in childhood, and they married when she was just fourteen and he was twenty-one-with her parents' blessing. Together, they built a life full of love, laughter, and cherished memories. Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Clifford Thompson; her parents, John and Bertie Dunaway; her brother, Bobby Dunaway and his wife, Mary; sister, Norma Jean Hughes; grandson, Jacob Thompson; great-grandchildren, Annie Mae and James Williams; and several beloved in-laws: Norma Jean Bila and husband, Charles; Joe Thompson and wife, Helen; Melvin Thompson; Jap Thompson; Nina Sanders and husband, Truman; Susie Coull and husband, Chuck; and Murphy Thompson and wife, Nell. She is survived by her devoted children: • Joe Wayne Thompson and wife, Lisa • Steve Thompson • Judy Thompson and Mark Floyd • Susan Thompson • Richard Thompson She also leaves behind sixteen grandchildren: Joseph Thompson, Jonathen Thompson, Justin Thompson, Crystal Taylor (Richard), Nicole Smith (Traylen), Brianna Thompson, Jordan Thompson, Jason Thompson (Kaylan), Christopher Ratcliff (Carol), Amber Floyd (Andy), Dawn Snyder (John), Daniel Williams (Rebecca), Nicholas Williams (Karen), Brook Williams, Anthony Thompson, and Josh Thompson. Shirley was blessed with thirty-one great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren, all of whom she loved dearly. She is also survived by her brother, Tom Dunaway and wife, Janie; sister-in-law, Betty Thompson; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and cherished friends. Graveside services for Shirley Thompson will be held on Monday, March 31, 2025, at 12:00 PM at Zion Hill Cemetery, with Richard Taylor officiating. Interment will follow in Zion Hill Cemetery. Shirley's legacy is one of faith, family, and unconditional love. She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who knew and loved her.
