Bio

James Thomas Young or J. T. was born on February 5, 1856, in Tennessee, USA. According to family legend, he left either Tennesse or Missouri via the Mississippi River and made his way to Celina, Collin, Texas, where he received work on a farm owned by James M. Brooks. The family doesn't know why J.T. chose to come to Texas, or if he had any relatives living in the area. There was talk after J. T.'s death that James Thomas wasn't his real name, that he took the name when he came to Celina. That rumor hasn't been proven. J.T. married seventeen-year-old, Eva Brooks (Knight) on October 14, 1897, in Hunt County, Texas, USA. She was the foster daughter of James M. Brooks, the man J. T. was working for in Celina, Texas. J. T. and Eva had ten known children. They lived in Tennessee, Arkansas, Greenville (Texas), Farmersville (Texas), Paris (Texas), Celina (Texas), Cottage Hill (Texas), and Celeste (Texas). Several McKinney, Collin, Texas, USA "Courier-Gazette" newspaper articles (see images) state that J. T. was a cotton farmer in Cottage Hill, Collin, Texas, and give hints he was really good friends with the two editors. The two editors were Thomas Willis Perkins Sr. and Walter B. Wilson. J. T.'s son, Arch Jewel Young, remembers going to a carnival in Paris, Texas with his father, and his father's friend who called himself "Jesse James." J. T,'s daughter, Bessie Young-Marks, says her father had money in a bank in Paris, Texas. She also remembers her father would never sign his name on documents, but he knew how to read, write and was good at math. He would write the farm figures, and total up the sums without errors. J. T. passed away from pneumonia on April 7, 1925, in Celeste, Hunt, Texas, USA only a few short months after moving there. His body was laid out on the kitchen table until the funeral. One year after his death, the "Courier-Gazette" newspaper published an article stating that J. T. had renewed his yearly subscription until 1927. Either J. T. faked his death in 1925, or his wife or a child renewed his subscription in his name. J.T. was buried at Dulaney Cemetery in Celeste. The GPS location of his grave is on BillionGraves. (From J. T.'s Wiki Tree memorial page written by Katrina Dawn Miller (me)). Side note- My James Young is not the son of, James Young and Malissa Beaty of Tennessee. Unless, my ancestor had two wives, two sets of kids, and died twice in a ten-year span, they're not the same person.
