Doris Mae Dickman, the daughter of Ray Elbert and Bessie May (Grisham) Probert, was born May 8, 1925. She departed this life peacefully with her daughter, Sally, at her side on April 29, 2025, at The Heritage of Webster County in Red Cloud, Nebraska nine days shy of her 100th birthday. Doris grew up in the Sargent community and graduated from the Sargent High School. She was united in marriage with Gehrt Thomas Dickman on October 18, 1943, in Thedford, Nebraska. Doris worked as the bookkeeper for her husband's and brother-in-law's business, Dickman Truck Stop at Sargent until 1965. They then moved to Red Cloud where they owned the Green Acres Motel until 1972. They moved to Hastings to live and then returned to Red Cloud in 2001. Together they resided at Heritage where Gehrt passed in 2007, with Doris at his side. She continued to make Heritage her home for the next 20 years. She was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother and friend to so many. Doris dedicated much of her life to serving others and her home was always open to family and friends alike. She genuinely loved people. She filled her leisure time with a number of varied interests and activities. Doris and Gehrt loved to dance, especially ballroom dancing to Big Bands and they traveled countless miles in their motor home visiting family and friends. She loved reading the newspaper and shopping grocery ads even up to the week of her passing. Playing bingo was a favorite pastime activity. As a homemaker, Doris loved cooking, baking, bowling and sewing. Her greatest love and enthusiasm in life was always for her family and she especially treasured the time they spent together. She was a member of the Methodist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Gehrt, on September 16, 2007; daughter, Sandra Okerman; her son and daughter-in-law, Gehrt and Paula Dickman; son-in-law, Lonnie Mattison; a stillborn daughter, Sonja; brothers Arthur, William, John and Robert Probert; and two sisters, Ethel Morse and Cora Morford.
