Bio
Adelhaide Dorothea "Dorcas" (Varrelmann) Wensel, born on 11 July 1817 at Greetsiel, Niedersachsen (Lower Saxony), Germany, daughter of Johan Diderich Georg "D. G." Varrelmann and Catharina Henrietta (Boiken) Varrelmann, died of "appoplexia" [ sic ] on 22 June 1841 at Natchez, Mississippi. Her father; her husband, Geroge "Wensell," whom she married on 3 October 1838 in Adams County, Mississippi; her son, Theodore Vincent Wensel Sr. , who was born on 29 July 1839 at the Governor Holmes House in Natchez; and at least one sister, Alvina (Varrelman) Gipser , survived her. The date and place of Dorcas's husband's death is unknown. By 1850 her son, Theodore, was living in the home of Andrew L. Wilson and his wife, Ann Eliza (Bowman) Wilson. The Wilsons, who never had any children, raised Theodore as their son. Note: Dorcas's burial record misspells her name "Doris Wenzle."
