Jacob was a young man during the build-up of Nauvoo Illinois in the early 1840's. He had a reputation for reliability that made him a preferred teamster there. He helped to haul the rock for the Mormon Nauvoo Temple. He was a member of the Mormon exodus across the plains to Utah. He fell in love with and married the beautiful Charlotte Turley, daughter of the famous Theodore Turley. Together they had eight children. He is listed in the book, "Pioneers and Prominent Men of Utah." It says, "Oct. 19, 1848, Amasa M. Lyman company. Missionary to Pennsylvania, Ohio and Indiana 1872; bishop's counselor. Farmer and stockraiser. Pioneer to St. Johns, Ariz., four years. Resides Fairview, Utah." He and Charlotte have a posterity that now spreads through central and northern Utah and beyond.
