Bio

Louis Lavelle Bounds 1931 - 2025 The family of Louis Lavelle Bounds is saddened to announce the passing of our sweet Dad, Paw Paw, teacher, and family patriarch. Louis went to heaven on April 3, 2025 while surrounded by family and the amazing staff of Colonel Robert L. Howard State Veterans Home. He was 94 years old. Mr. Bounds was born on February 19, 1931, in Sumrall, MS, to Otis and Martha Bounds. He was one of six children. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. While in the Army, he worked as a diesel mechanic and was stationed to several locations including Germany and Guam. He also served in the Korean War. After retiring from the Army, he went on to work at Kockums and Jim Pruitt. In 1954, he married Mavis Matson. They went on to have 3 children. Louis was lovingly known as "Paw Paw" to his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He truly loved to fish, garden, and spend time outside. He grew the best peas, butterbeans, tomatoes, and blueberries. He had many fishing buddies throughout the years. When he wasn't on the water or in the garden, he was spending time with his family. He will be missed by so many including his three children: Martha Green, Edward Bounds, and Brenda Johnson, six grandchildren: Michael Munn (Jennifer), Mandy Gooden, Morgan Munn, Marsha Walters (Luther), Matthew Johnson (Ian), and Edward Bounds Jr. (Ashley). He also had ten great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, Mavis Matson Bounds, his parents, Martha and Otis Bounds, his brothers, Kermit Bounds and James Hilton Bounds, and his sisters, Madie Graham, Lesse May Everett, and Myrtle Ross. Pallbearers will be Justin Chastain, Luther Walters, Matthew Johnson, Channing Gooden, Malachi Gooden, Trae Finn, and Edward Bounds, Jr. His family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the amazing staff at the Colonel Robert L. Howard State Veterans Home and Lakeside Hospice. They provided the most amazing care both to Louis and his family. We are so thankful for them. His family and friends are invited to his service on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at Usrey Funeral Home in Talladega. Chaplain Clay Cain will officiate. The visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. and the service will begin at 2:00 p.m. A graveside service at Pine Hill Memorial Park will follow.
