Bio

Richard A. Janssen, 83, of Bertrand, Nebraska, passed away at his home on March 25, 2025. Richard was born on April 22, 1941, the son of Martin and Mary Elizabeth (Racicky) Janssen at Spalding, Nebraska. Richard graduated from Greeley High School in 1959, Richard enlisted in the Army where he was stationed in Korea as a vehicle mechanic and was honorably discharged in 1965. On February 14, 1975, Richard married Diane Kay Miller, and to this union two children were born, Elizabeth and Dick and he adopted Marcia and Brenda from a previous marriage in 1975 after they married. Richard worked at various farms and ranches as a hired hand, he went to work at Monroe's Auto factory until he retired. Richard enjoyed reading, watching NCIS and WWE. In his younger years he enjoyed fishing, and attending his grandkids activities. When his family got together he enjoyed card games, Phase 10, 10 point Pitch and Pinochle. Richard is survived by children, Marcia Janssen of Gothenburg; Brenda (Doug) Johnson of Curtis; Elizabeth (Shane) Patterson of Bertrand and Dick (Kathleen) Janssen of Corpus Christi, TX, sisters Viola Brinkman of Ericson and Margaret Gray of Greeley; his brother Charles Janssen of Oak Harbor, WA, fourteen grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Diane, parents Martin and Mary Elizabeth, sister Alice Marie Janssen, niece Alice Hall, sister-in-law Deena Janssen, brother's-in-law Slim Brinkman and Peter James (Blue) Gray. Visitation will be held Friday, March 28, 2025, 1:00-6:00 pm, Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, 620 10th St, Gothenburg, Nebraska with the family present from 4:00-6:00 pm. Funeral Services will be held, 2:30 pm, Saturday, March 29, 2025, Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, Nebraska with Pastor Lonna Grabenstien officiating. Burial will follow in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery.
