Robert Scheinost, 84, of Sioux Falls SD formerly of Colome SD, passed away on Monday, February 24, at Touch Mark All Saints assisted living. Funeral services will be held Monday March 3, at the Zion Lutheran Church at 11:00AM. Burial will follow in the Colome cemetery. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be directed to Zion Lutheran Church, Colome, SD and Bethel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Sioux Falls, SD. Bob was born on April 18, 1940 in O'Neill, NE to James and Ruth Scheinost. He grew up in Winner, SD and graduated from Winner High School in 1958. He attended the University of South Dakota and graduated with a business degree in 1962. On June 30, 1962, he was united in marriage to Karen Hossle. They made their first home in Winner where Bob was employed by Hewett Motor Company. In 1963, he began employment at the Citizens Bank of Colome. Bob and Karen then moved to Colome where they raised their family and remained residents for over 50 years. In 1970, Bob graduated from the Colorado School of Banking at the University of Colorado. He continued working at First Fidelity Bank (formerly Citizens Bank of Colome) where at his retirement he held the office of Senior Vice President of First Fidelity Banks, manager of the Colome branch and member of the Board of Directors of First Fidelity Banks. Bob served on the Colome School Board for 18 years, many of those years as the chairman. He also served the City of Colome as mayor for 14 years. As a member of Zion Lutheran Church, he was on the council for numerous years and chaired the building committee at the time a new church was built in 2002. Over the years, Bob served as a board member or officer of many local organizations. He had a variety of interests including fishing and hunting along with a love for baseball and Nebraska Cornhusker football. Bob worked for First Fidelity Bank for 43 years, retiring in 2006. In retirement, Bob and Karen enjoyed traveling and watching their grandchildren's extracurricular activities. In 2014, they moved to Sioux Falls. Bob and Karen continued their faith journey becoming members of Bethel Evangelical Lutheran Church. Grateful for having shared Bob's life are his wife of 62 years, Karen; children, Scott Scheinost, Hill City, SD, Susan (Matt) Willard, Brandon, SD, and Sheri (Bill) Allen, Harrisburg, SD; grandchildren, Kelsey Knecht (fiancé Justin Rosebrock), James Willard, Connor Knecht (fiancé Jordyn Sterud), Will Allen and Katelyn Allen; siblings, Tom (Nancy) Scheinost, Ft. Pierre, SD, and JoAnn (Neil) Hoffine, Green Valley, AZ; sister-in –laws, Rita Idler, Burlington, CO and Donice (Paul) Villanova, Portland, OR, as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. -Mason Funeral Home
