Bio

Obituary (from the Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow funeral home website): Kenneth Nelson Spurgin, age 89, passed away on February 15, 2025, in McKinney, Texas. He was born on March 23, 1935, in Rhea Mills, Texas, to Nelson Spurgin and Bessie Loma (O'Neal) Spurgin. Kenneth married the love of his life, Betty Sue Nevil, on July 26, 1954, in McKinney, Texas. They raised four sons and Kenneth's legacy lives on through his sons, his grandchildren, and his great-grandchildren. A man of deep faith, Kenneth was an active member of several churches during his life. He and his family were committed members at King Memorial Baptist Church of McKinney, Texas, where he served as a Deacon and many life-long friendships were made. He later joined Fairview Baptist Church (now known as Cottonwood Creek), and most recently attending First Christian Church in Allen, Texas. He was a cherished member of each congregation. Kenneth had a strong dedicated work ethic his entire life. Even though excavation was his main primary focus, he had many skills. If he wasn't doing dirt work, he was feeding animals, working in the garden, or just piddling around the barn or house. No grass grew under his feet. He is survived by his son, Mike Spurgin of Pottsboro, Texas; son, Monty Spurgin of New Hope, Texas; son, Mark Spurgin and wife, Kima of McKinney, Texas; son, Mickey Spurgin and wife, Sherry of Fairview, Texas; granddaughter, Stephanie Brown and husband, Johnny of Lubbock, Texas; grandson, Chase Spurgin and wife, Emily of Edmond, Oklahoma; granddaughter, Kasie Ergish and husband, Brian of Celina, Texas; grandson, Tanner Spurgin and wife, Lauren of McKinney, Texas; great grandchildren Presley Haile, Savannah Spurgin, Aubrey Spurgin, Charlotte Ergish, Steele "Bear" Ergish and Jameson Spurgin, as well as many other loving family members and friends. He has enjoyed his sweet companionship with Lynn Odle of McKinney, Texas, who brought joy to his life with her daughter, Megan Stuckle of Allen, Texas. Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, Nelson and Bessie Spurgin; wife, Betty Sue Spurgin; and grandson, Reese Haile. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, February 23, 2025, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013. The service will also be live streamed. Interment will be held at Ridgeview Memorial Park following the service. The family will receive guests during a visitation on Saturday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
