Carbon monoxide poisoning apparently killed a 41-year-old woman found dead in her home Sunday evening, Justice of the Peace Silas Clark said. Fumes from a running car may have overcome Alma O'Neil Fleming Waters of 642 Harwell, a six-year employee of Texas Instruments. She was discovered dead by her husband, Jerry, when he returned from an out-of-state trip Sunday night. Clark pronounced the woman dead at 7:20 p.m. Sunday. Clark reported the following: Apparently, Mrs. Waters left her automobile running in the garage to warm it, and the home heating ventilation system carried the fumes into the house. From all indications, the death appeared to be accidental. The house was locked, and the woman's husband had to break into the home, where he discovered his wife lying dead on the floor. The woman's car was in the garage, the gas tank empty and the ignition switch turned on. The home was still full of fumes Sunday evening. The woman probably died sometime Sunday morning, as her husband had talked to her on the telephone Saturday night. Services for Mrs. Waters will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Elliott-Hamil Chapel of Faith, Highway 277. Her body will be cremated. Born April 28, 1938, in Saltillo, Texas, she attended schools in Saltillo and in Mt. Vernon. She came to Abilene from Lubbock, Texas, in 1978. She married Jerry Waters on September 3, 1978, in Abilene. She was a member of Floydada Methodist Church. She had worked in quality control at Texas Instruments for six years. Survivors include her husband; three sons, Gayland Fleming, Jr., of Lubbock, Randy Fleming of Floydada and Danny Fleming of Abernathy; her mother, Mrs. Jessie Tillery of Mt. Vernon; two brothers, Ray Armstrong of Emory and David Armstrong of Spring; and her maternal grandmother, Etta Smith of Saltillo.
