www.coloradohistoricnewspapers.org/ Surface Creek Champion, Volume 19, Number 14, October 5, 1922 Hiram White Dies Suddenly. Hiram White, a respected citizen of Cedaredge. died suddenly at his home Monday evening as a result of apoplexy. The aged gentleman had not been well for several days, but was up and around Sunday. Monday morning he was taken ill and died that evening. The deceased was born in Indiana, December 29, 1846. He moved to Illinois at an early age and there grew to manhood. In 1878 he married Miss Loretta Hull in Kansas. To the union were born 10 children, seven daughters and three sons, all of whom are living. Six of the children were present at the funeral services. Mr. White and family moved to Colorado in 1896 and located at Cedaredge fourteen years ago. Mrs. White died 24 years ago, thus leaving a double responsibility upon the husband and father in rearing the large family. However he was ably assisted by the older daughters and the mutual helpfulness of the entire family one for the other has been very marked. In the death of Mr. White the community loses a man of sterling integrity, a good father, a true friend and neighbor. Funeral services were held at the Baptist church Wednesday afternoon conducted by Rev. McGlashan and the body placed to rest in the Cedaredge cemetery.
