Joy Elaine (White) McClendon Joy Elaine (White) McClendon passed peacefully in her sleep in Nashville, TN on Aug. 6, 2019. She was born in Petty's Chapel May 20, 1928, the daughter of Ezra and Nettie Helen White. She later moved to Powell with the family and attended Powell school. Joy was a student at Navarro Junior College when she met Coy Wayne "CW" McClendon, a decorated WWII veteran. They were married in 1949 and remained devoted to each other until his passing in 2016. Joy and CW raised two children, LIVING. The couple lived in Powell for their entire life together, where Joy was a homemaker and assistant postmistress at the Powell Post Office as well as a full partner and bookkeeper for McClendon's Used Trucks, CW's longtime local business. They were members of Powell Baptist Church, which began in a building, still standing, that her father helped build in her childhood. She was a part time pianist, song leader and Sunday school class teacher there for many years. Joy is survived by her children, LIVING, and grandchildren LIVING; great-grandchildren are LIVING. The family has requested a private graveside service.
