Edna Laurel McKenzie Donica of Red Oak, Texas passed away on January 6, 2015 at Charlton Methodist Hospital Dallas, Texas. She passed peacefully with her family members by her bedside. Edna was born the third child in Jacksonville Texas on November 18, 1943 to the late Curtis and Laura McKenzie. Her siblings Marguerite Ann McKenzie Baugus (deceased) and Patsy Lorene McKenzie Takats. Edna attended school at Elisha M. Pease Elementary and South Oak Cliff High School in Dallas, Texas. Edna Married James Dale Donica on April 28, 1961 where they have celebrated 53 happy years together. James and Edna had two daughters Shelley Marie Donica and Kathy Renee Donica. Edna is survived by her Husband James Dale Donica, Daughter Kathy Renee Donica, and Her Grandson Zachary Dale Donica. "Zach was the "Apple of her eye". Also surviving Edna are her many nieces and nephews. She was proceeded in death by her daughter Shelly Marie Donica on February 3, 2013. Edna worked at Kip Restaurant early years and AVO for the past 26 years where she was known to many as "Mom" AVO was Edna's second Family. Edna had a love for animals she was involved in animal rescue and found good homes for homeless dogs. She would often take food to a field where she knew wild dogs lived so they would not go hungry. Molly, Trooper, and Momma dog was some of her rescue dogs that were lucky to become a part of the Donica family. She worked hard to raise money for toys to donate to Marines "Toys for Tots" so children could have a good Christmas. Edna also had a love for gardening saying that working in the soil and planting seeds made her know that God is the creator of all things big and small. Edna was very blessed to have such a loving family and friends and will be missed dearly by many. Edna's family want to extend their appreciation to the Doctors, Nurses and Health Care Techs at Charlton Methodist Hospital for their many hours of care. Arrangements with: Byrum Funeral Home
