Bio

Lois McKeown Watts, 95, of Wichita Falls, passed away on Monday, January 16, 2023. Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on January 28, 2023, at Lunn's Colonial Chapel with Sue Crain officiating. Lois was born May 8, 1927, in Sweetwater, Texas, to Henry W. McKeown and Winnie Lewis McKeown. At the age of 9, after her father's death, Lois went to live with her McKeown grandparents and aunt, Hazel, in Jacksonville, Texas. It was then that she became a student of Christian Science, and remained a devoted, practicing Christian Scientist for the rest of her life, relying only on God and prayer for health and healing. Lois graduated from Jacksonville High School in 1944. When she was 15, she met the love of her life, Dalton Watts. They were married on October 23, 1944, after he had obtained his wings in the Army Air Corps. Two months later Dalton left to serve in combat duty in Europe during World War II. Lois worked at the local bank in Jacksonville, while Dalton was in the war. When he returned, they took a six-week delayed honeymoon to many national parks in the southwestern U.S. In the early years of their marriage they lived in many different towns, as Dalton was beginning his career as a pilot. While living in San Antonio, their son, Larry, was born. After moving to Wichita Falls, their daughter, Patti, was born. In the early '60s, Lois became an active volunteer for the Wichita County Republican Party, in which she continued to be active for over 50 years, serving in many capacities as well as attending many state conventions as a delegate. One thing Lois was very proud of was that she took flying lessons in the late '60s and completed three solo cross-country flights. In the mid '60s Lois began working at the Wichita Club, where she worked for ten years. She then attained her real estate license and tried her hand at selling houses, for a year or two. After that, Lois found her passion, working at fine china and crystal shops including Stephens Associates, The Pavilion and Canterbury's. Lois loved helping young couples find just the right china, crystal and silver for their new lives together and helping friends and family select the perfect gift for someone. In her later life, Lois worked in the Christian Science Reading Room until the age of 90. Once again, she had the opportunity to help people, ministering to them about the love of God and their relationship to Him as his beloved child. Lois was one of the most loving people you could ever know. She became a friend to everyone she met and was a very loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Her passing leaves a void that will be difficult to fill. In addition to her parents, Lois was preceded in death by her beloved McKeown grandparents and great aunts: Hazel McKeown, Bessie Jamison and husband, Paul; and uncles: Tom McKeown and wife, Beth, Cave McKeown and wife, Phala, and numerous other uncles, aunts, cousins, as well as her brother, Weldon Lewis, sister-in-law, Sylverine Cleveland Sealy and brother-in-law, June Cleveland. Lois is survived by her husband of 78 years, Dalton Watts; son, Larry Watts; daughter Patti Hamilton and husband, Larry; grandson, Michael Teter, grandson, David Hamilton and partner Jessica Bright; great grandson, Ivan Teter; great granddaughter, Bianca Maria Teter; sister, Juanice Friday, brother, Grady McKeown; nieces, Pam Todd and husband, Jerry, Terri Bearden and husband, Michael, and Vicki Pryor and husband, Mike; nephews, Rick Cleveland and wife, Marilyn, Nick Cleveland and wife, Jon, and numerous great nieces and nephews. Lois is also survived by her newfound family sister, Glenda Sebastian; nieces, Peggy Earp, Donna Kornegay, Susan Daniels; nephews, David Sebastian, Mike Sebastian, Jim White and their spouses and children. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be sent to the local Christian Science Church or First Step. Lunn Colonial Funeral Home Wichita Falls, Texas
