Funeral services for Gwendolyn V. "Gwen" Mattson, 96, of Pierce, NE. will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, December 23, 2024 at the United Church of Christ in Pierce, NE. Reverend Gordon Braun will officiate the service. A visitation will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, December 22, 2024 also at the church in Pierce. Interment will take place at Prospect View Cemetery, rural Pierce, NE. Gwen passed away on Tuesday, December 17, 2024 at the Osmond General Hospital in Osmond, NE. Gwen was born on August 8, 1928 in Neligh, Nebraska to Lloyd and Velda (Clark) Sherman. She attended Tilden Public School until the 8th grade before graduating from Tilden High School in 1945. On February 11, 1951 she married Allen Mattson at the United Church of Christ parsonage in Tilden, NE. After marriage they farmed southwest of Foster. In 1970 the family moved to Pierce. Gwen was a member of United Church Of Christ Church in Pierce, Piece Senior Center, Meals on Wheels. Gwen worked at the Gambles store in Pierce and cleaned at Zion Lutheran Church in Pierce. Gwen worked at Pierce County Treasurer's office from 1979 to 2002 when she retired. Gwen enjoyed traveling and traveled all of the United States and Europe. She also enjoyed reading and walking. Survivors Include: Sons Roger (Karen) Mattson of Pierce, Craig Mattson of Pierce, eight grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents Lloyd and Velda, husband Allen, son Rodney, sister Sharon, brother Mick, grandson Adam Nathan. The pianist will be Shirley Hetrick. Casket bearers will be Cory Mattson, Kyle Mattson, Greg Nathan, Aidan Gnat, Dan Weiser, and Dominic Hoffmann.
