Bio
Charles R. Brownlee, Jr. passed away from complications of Alzheimer's dementia on November 21, 2024 in Glen Rose, Texas at the age of 91. He was born in Gorman, Texas to Charles Rush Brownlee, Sr. and Tessie Alma Golden on October 26, 1933. Known to many as C.R., he spent most of his childhood in DeLeon, Texas where he played on the DeLeon High School basketball team and graduated in 1950. Charles served in the US Air Force assigned to the 42nd Tactical Reconnaissance Squad stationed at Spangdahlem Air Base in Germany from 1953-1957.He then returned to Texas and received his Associates Degree from Tarleton State University. He married Bobbie J. Warren on August 31, 1957 in DeLeon, Texas. In 1961, Charles began his career with the US Treasury Department which would take him to Amarillo, Lubbock and finally to Austin, where he lived until moving to Pecan Plantation in Granbury in 1992. Charles was an avid golfer, loved to fish, always rooted for his UT Longhorns and enjoyed riding around in his 1967 Mustang. He was an active member of Acton UMC and the Bible Explorers Sunday School class. He was very involved volunteering with Habitat for Humanity, Meals on Wheels and helped organize and run a yearly golf tournament at Pecan Plantation benefitting Happy Hill Farm, along with organizing the annual Lords Acre golf tournament for Acton Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Elton Brownlee of Odessa and his beloved granddaughter Jennifer Berberich. Charles is survived by his wife of 67 years Bobbie, daughter Patti Berberich (Tim) all of Granbury, niece Sheri Murray of Odessa and nephews Bryan Brownlee and Sherman Brownlee of Odessa. The family extends special thanks to the caring staff at Glen Rose Nursing Home and the wonderful staff of Solaris Hospice Care-especially Alexis, Kinzie, Emily and Chaplain Caleb. A memorial service for Charles will be held on January 3rd, 2025 at 10:00am at Acton Methodist Church.
