Mass of Christian Burial for Elmer J. Dostal age 95 of Dodge, NE will be on Monday, October 7, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Dodge, NE. Interment will be in the St. Wenceslaus Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, with a Vigil Service and Knights of Columbus Rosary at 7:00 p.m., and will continue on Monday one hour prior to the service at the Church. Minnick Funeral Home in West Point, NE is assisting the family with the arrangements. The family suggests that memorials be directed in Elmer's name to the family for future consideration of local charities. Elmer passed away on Wednesday, October 2nd at the Clarkson Community Care Center in Clarkson, NE. Elmer John Dostal was born on March 14, 1929 at rural Howells, NE to Ed and Mary (Pickhinke) Dostal. He attended Colfax Co. Rural School through the 8th grade. Elmer began farming south of Howells with his father at a young age and continued farming with his son Calvin. On August 31, 1950, he was united in marriage to Alvina Sayers at Holy Trinity Catholic Church-Heun and to this union four children were born, Victoria, Gary, Calvin and Bernice. In 1963, Elmer and Alvina moved to a farm south of Dodge and later moved into Dodge in 2010. Over the years Elmer was a Dekalb Seed Salesman and sold Conrad Grain Bins. Elmer was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Dodge, Knights of Columbus Council #5439 of Howells, served on the Dodge Coop Board and had helped with the Dodge County Fair. Elmer enjoyed spending time in his shop restoring tractors, pedal cars and tractors and toys. He built 1/3 scale replicas of a Massey-Ferguson and John Deere tractor that he enjoyed taking to parades and the John Deere replica was featured in the monthly John Deere magazine. Elmer and Alvina loved dancing, traveling, camping trips, especially over the 4th of July in Chamberlin, SD. He also enjoyed playing the accordion and harmonica, woodworking, and attending all of the grandchildren's activities. Survivors include- Daughter-Victoria and Larry Hunke of Dodge, NE and family- Russ and Brenda Hunke and children-Grace, Lindsey and Jake Jill and Mike Ellerbruch and children-Evan, Michael and Jaxon Jess and Crystal Hunke and children-Reagan, Paisley and Emery Son-Gary Dostal of Omaha, NE Son-Calvin and Kimberly Dostal of Howells, NE and family- Melissa and Billy Priester and children-Logan and Briley Matt and Delena Dostal Tyler and Brook Dostal and children-Rhet and Dawsyn Tammi and Taylor Vogt and children-Aleigha, Roslyn and Sawyer Daughter-Bernice and John Howard of Omaha, NE and family- Crystal Cover and son-John Michael Tiffany Polter and daughter-Reese Jamie Heyne Jacque and Kyle Cernik and children-Alex, Paxton and Maverick Brother-Richard and Charlotte Dostal of Howells, NE Elmer was preceded in death by his parents-Ed and Mary Dostal, wife-Alvina Dostal, brother-Milo Dostal, and sister-Mary Volsicka.
