Bio

Terry Douglas Stearns, age 78, of North Platte, died November 15, 2024 at Great Plains Health. He was born on May 18, 1946 in North Platte, NE to Rasty and Mary (Hayworth) Stearns, and graduated from North Platte High School with the class of 1964. Terry entered the US Army in May 1967 and served a tour of Vietnam. After his discharge he returned to North Platte. On June 16, 1972 he married the love of his life, Valerie Sanders in Sterling, CO. The couple lived in Ogallala where he and his brother Tom opened Stearns Janitorial Service, serving many businesses in Ogallala. They moved to Arizona in 1999 and returned to North Platte in 2006. Terry enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing, Husker and Colorado football and gambling. He will be remembered as an excellent husband, father, and grandpa. Survivors include children, Scott (Renae) Stearns of Tuscon, AZ, Jim (Jeannie) Stearns of Logansport, IN, Travis (Laura) Stearns of North Platte; five grandchildren, three great grandchildren, several other family members and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Valerie; and siblings, Darrell, Maxine, Don, Darlene, Arlene, and Tom. Services will be held at 9:30 A.M. Tuesday, November 19, 2024 at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home with Lynn Swanson officiating. Burial will be at Fort McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell, NE with full military honors.
