Graveside rites for Andrew James "Andy" Monson, 84, held Friday, October 25, 2024, at Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery with Pastor Mike Johnston officiating. Andy was born January 16, 1940 in Devol, Oklahoma. He was the son of the late Clifford Thomas "Tom" and Mary Hortense Durham Monson. He departed this life for life eternal on October 22, 2024 in an Ardmore care facility. Andy grew up on a farm in Cotton County, north of Devol, OK with two sisters and a brother. He attended Cameron College and Panhandle A & M in Goodwell, OK where he got his degree in Animal Husbandry. He then obtained a graduate assistantship to attend the University Missouri, where he received a Master of Science degree in Animal Science in 1962. He began his career with the Carter County Health Department in 1963 as a sanitarian. Over his 36 years, he was instrumental in starting Operation Pride and helping the Southern Oklahoma Water Corp. get started. He retired in 1999 as the Senior Environmental Specialist. He married the former Doris Jean Mullendore on December 10, 1971, and they had celebrated 52 years of marriage. They were very active in the Carter County Free Fair, receiving numerous trophies. He also raised an AQHA world grand champion, and won grand champion mule in the Ft. Worth Stock Show. Andy was also a coon hunter, avid horseman, and hog hunter. Andy is survived by his wife Doris, sisters, Mary Combs and Gayle Monson and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother Thomas Monson. Serving as bearers will be Dewayne Workman, Matt Dickinson, Matiney Dickinson, Kelly Norman, Wahoo Norman, and Jimmy Davis.
