James F. Moore was born in 1828 or 1829 somewhere in Alabama and his parents are unknown. About 1857, he married Elizabeth Margaret Currie/Curry. She was born about 1835, possibly in Alabama. (The name Currie or the variation, "Curry" is Scottish and has been spelled either way by the family or by others, so that wise researchers must be alert for either spelling.) They are living in Scott County, Mississippi on the census of 1860, with their first child, Annie Margaret Moore, b. abt 1858, in Scott County. They are living near Elizabeth's Currie relations. Elizabeth's parents were John Currie (whose father, Archibald, was born in Scotland), and Nancy Johnson. By 1870, following the Civil War, James and Elizabeth and possibly Currie relatives were living in the Livingston Community of Polk County, Texas and in addition to Annie had added three more children: Caroline, Bethana, and George. By 1877, they were in McLennan County, Texas, where their daughter, Annie married her first husband of four, John Paul Shaw, Feb. 10, 1877. (He died very soon after they married. Burial unknown). By 1880, the James F. Moore family and the Alexander Curry/Currie families were living next door to each other in Milam County, Texas. 1880 Census, Milam County, TX, ED 105, Stamped pg 320, sheet 32, Prec. 5, lines 44-50 Dwellings #8 & #9.
