Bio

Ann Thompson, of Joplin, MO., escaped her pain and disability of the last too many years on her Lord's day, Sun., Dec. 13, at home, surrounded by her immediate family. She was born in England, Ark., on Sept. 3, 1942, the youngest of five children, to Clyde and Myrtle (Teer) Burleson. Ann spent her earliest years on a farm near Keo, Ark., then attended Little Rock [Ark.] Central High School, c. 1957, where she met members of the "Little Rock Nine" and remained friends with them to the end of her life. She was a bright, eager learner, had Southern courtesy and helpfulness, and had the first dollar she ever earned, in 1957, until she passed. After attending secretarial school Ann married her childhood sweetheart, Wayne Gass, in 1959, and became a superb homemaker, mother, and the "go-to lady" of her large family, giving out advice and help. She also was the business partner with her husband Wayne in their retail store and later, insurance agency management, was president of the Fort Smith, Ark., Girls Club, physicians' office manager, commercial interior decorator, veterinarian's office manager, and a surgical assistant. She married Dick Thompson in Fort Worth, TX., on Sept. 28, 1996, and was the light of his life. Ann was preceded in death by her parents, and first husband Wayne. Ann is survived by her husband Dick Thompson, children Charles Gass (Rebecca) of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Elizabeth "Liz" Jenkins (Don) of Rogers, Ark., grandchildren Addison Gass, and Donny, Amanda, Chastity, and Leisha Jenkins, and six great-grandchildren.
