Funeral services for Novice Wilcox Crone, 89, of Winnsboro, a native of Hopkins County, were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, at Beaty Funeral Home Chapel in Winnsboro with Ron Eckstrom officiating. Burial followed in Harmony Cemetery with Bryan Crone, Peter Tillema, Nik Thoman, Nathan Crone, Eric Crone, Matthew Day and Michael Johnson serving as pallbearers. Mrs. Crone died Wednesday, Jan. 11, at Presbyterian Hospital in Winnsboro. She was born in the Harmony community of Hopkins County on June 11, 1916, to Henry Samuel and Maud Coats Wilcox. She married Clifford "Cotton" Crone on Dec. 20, 1940. He survives. Mrs. Crone was a homemaker. She was affiliated with the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness. At the time of her death, she resided in the Harmony community on the land purchased with bales of cotton by her grandfather. Her pastimes included playing guitar and piano and oil painting. Other survivors include three sons, David and Cecil Crone, both of Garland, and Kendell Crone of Dallas; one daughter, Marquita Day of Garland; nine grandchildren, Bryan Crone, Eric Crone, Dana Ward, Lori Thoman, Nathan Crone, Jason Crone, Tiffany Tillema, Teresa Johnson and Matthew Day; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Neva Edmonson.
