Charles J. (C.J.) Ashley, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed away on Monday, March 20, 2017, at the age of 84. C. J. was born on October 27, 1932, in Westhoff, Texas, to Alec G. Ashley and Mary Pauline (Babe) Miller Ashley. C. J. married Marie DuBose on October 4, 1952. He is survived by the love of his life, Marie DuBose Ashley; children Cynthia Marie Ashley, Cheryl Kay Ashley Scullin and husband, Patrick Scullin; and Charles James (Chuck) Ashley, Jr; grandson Ryan Patrick Scullin; granddaughter Laura Elizabeth Scullin, all of Austin, TX; brother-in-law, Larry W. DuBose and his wife, Jane, Houston, TX; niece Kimberley DuBose, Missouri City, TX; nephews Joe DuBose, Davis, CA; Brandon Merritt, Natick, MASS; J. D. Merritt, Katy, TX, and their families. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, March 26, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 3003 Northland Drive, Austin, Texas, reception following. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Covenant Presbyterian Church, Hospice Austin, or the charity of one's choice. To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
