Funeral Services for Jerry Vraspir, age 74, of Du Bois, Nebraska will be at 11:00am on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Naper, Nebraska. Alex Bendig will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow in the Oak Dale Cemetery, south west of Naper. Jerry passed away on Sunday, April 14, 2024 at the Colonial Acres Nursing Home in Humboldt, Nebraska. Arrangements are entrusted to Biglin's Mortuary in Spencer. Jerry Lynn Vraspir was born on November 8, 1949 in Lynch, Nebraska to Alvin and Dorothy (Higgins) Vraspir, the oldest of seven children. They lived on a farm near Naper, Nebraska. When Jerry was two years old, he was diagnosed with Polio. His family then moved to Council Bluffs. When he was 14 years old, they moved into Omaha. Jerry was part of the first class to graduate from Burke High School in 1968. After graduating, he attended University of Omaha, part time, for many years focusing on Math and Science. While in college Jerry worked for a gas station. One Easter, Jerry met Mary Knight when she had a flat tire and stopped at his station. The couple later eloped on December 17, 1977 to Walthill, Nebraska. To this union eight children were born; William, Joseph, Raymond, Brenda, Adam, Patrick, Carla, and David. Jerry worked various jobs including working as a security guard, in a Lab that analyzed human food and another lab that analyzed concrete. The couple liked to be on the move and lived in several houses until they settled on an acreage near Du Bois, Nebraska in 2000. Jerry enjoyed working on his cars and passed on that passion and knowledge to his children. He never lost his interest in Chemistry and Math, never missing a chance to read articles about it. Jerry is survived by his wife of 46 years, Mary Vraspir of Auburn, NE; children, William (Roleta) Vraspir of Hastings, NE , Joseph (Jill) Vraspir of Beatrice, NE , Raymond (Imogene Abriola) Vraspir of Pawnee City, NE, Brenda (Josh Bauer) Vraspir of Minnesota, Adam (Nicole) Vraspir of Plattsmouth, NE, Carla Vraspir of Nemaha, NE, and David Vraspir of Du Bois, NE; 12 grandchildren; brothers, Allan (Pat Fitzgerald) Vraspir of Omaha, NE, Neil Vraspir of Warsaw, MO, Dennis (Cinnamon) Vraspir of Omaha, NE; sister, Chelsa (Jerome) Barry of Lincoln, NE; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; his son, Patrick Vraspir; his grandson, Shawn Vraspir; his brothers, Les Vraspir and Terry Vraspir.
