Bio

Franklin D. Jurek went to be with the Lord March 29, 2019 at the age of 70. He was born July 23, 1948 in Port Lavaca to the late Alfred F. and Matilda Cervenka Jurek. He was a graduate of Calhoun High School in 1966 and attended The University of Houston. The family will receive friends Saturday, April 6, 2019 from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm at Grace Funeral Chapel in Port Lavaca and a Memorial Service at 1:00 pm with Father Tommy Chen officiating. Reception following service at Grace Community Church on Foster Rd in Six Mile. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers Alfred Jurek and Wayne Jurek. Franklin is survived by his wife of over 35 years, Shirley Jurek; brother Leroy (Carla) Jurek; daughters Carol (Nathan) Sparks, Patricia (Billy) Platt, Victoria (Jerry) Chaka and Steva Mier-Barker; nieces Sherri (Bill) McClellan and Lisa (Kim) Evans; nephew, Steven (Lesa) Jurek; sister-in-law Patti Fitzpatrick; 10 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; numerous great nieces and great nephews. Franklin also leaves behind his best friend and confidant, his dog, Cujo. He was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, great uncle, grandfather and great grandfather. He served as a Port Lavaca City Councilman, a County Commissioner for Precinct 2, and a reserve Sheriff Deputy for 18 years. He was a member of the Rotary Club, The Six Mile Volunteer Fire Dept. and Six Mile Cemetery Association; as well as an Agent for RVOS & SPJST Insurance Companies. Franklin was very active and supportive to the city of Port Lavaca and Calhoun County. He was a craftsman known as "The House Doctor" for many years. He was an avid Houston Astros fan. Following retirement he drove a school bus for CCISD. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of South Texas, Six Mile Cemetery Association or Six Mile Volunteer Fire Department.
