Bio
Stephen Albert Peoples, 73, passed away on July 26, 2024. He was born on July 15, 1951 in Ganado, Texas to Albert H. Peoples and Josephine Francis Matus. Stephen graduated from Calhoun High School in Port Lavaca in 1969. Stephen married "The prettiest red-head he ever knew" on March 28th, 1970, Brenda Gayleen Morton. Stephen worked at Alcoa Alumina in Point Comfort after graduating high school. He and his family later moved to Louise where he engaged in farming and ranching for many years. In 2017, he retired from the City Of El Campo where he worked with Animal Control. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family and friends. Most of all, he was known to all who loved him dearly as "POPS". He cherished his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is survived by his son, Keith Peoples (Andrea) of Wallis, and daughter, LaShelle Hlavaty (Clint) of Louise; sisters, Susan Porter (Wilson), Kathryn Peoples; brothers, Christopher Peoples and Timothy Peoples (Becky). Granddaughters: Meagan Shope(Chaz), Madison Dorsett(Mathew), Mallory Peoples, Randie, Kara and Averie Hlavaty. Great Grandchildren: Rylee Ann and Colter Dorsett. Stephen is preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 49 years, Gayleen Peoples, and sister, Veronica Peoples. A Gathering of Friends will be held Saturday, August 10, 2024 from 3 until 5 pm at Wheeler Funeral Home. Donations in Stephen's memory may be made to M.D. Anderson Cancer Research, P.O.
