Olney Enterprise, May 11, 2015-- Charlie John Kulhanek Jr. passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 9, 2015, at Vitas Hospice care at Baylor Hospital, Ft. Worth. Services: Visitation with family was at 6:30 p.m. followed by the Rosary at 7:30 p.m. at Lunn Funeral Home in Olney on Monday, May 11. Funeral mass was celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 12, at the Assumption of Mary Catholic Church in Megargel, Texas, immediately followed by graveside service at the Megargel Cemetery. Charlie was born April 10, 1959, in Olney, Texas. He lived in Megargel for 42 years with his parents. After graduating from Megargel High School in 1977, he worked for Asa Pease at the Silver Spurs leather shop. Charlie enjoyed designing and hand-painting custom t-shirts for many years and was thrilled when he had his shirts in states from coast to coast. He was an avid Texas Rangers, Dallas Cowboys and Elvis fan. In recent years, he especially enjoyed Bingo, word-finder puzzles and he was a voracious reader until the very end. As a life-long Catholic, he never lost his faith and hope. Charlie completed one of the first two-year Fort Worth Catholic Diocesan Lay Ministry programs led by Sisters Pat Miller and Kay Kolb in the late 1970s. He moved to the Fort Worth area in 2001 as his neuromuscular degenerative condition progressed, requiring skilled nursing and rehabilitative care. Survivors include his parents, Charlie J. Kulhanek Sr. and Rosie Miller Kulhanek of Megargel, Texas; sisters, Rosalie Kulhanek, Teresa and husband Scott Kerr, all of Ft. Worth, Veronica and husband Mike Wimmer of Mansfield, Texas; brothers David and wife Stephanie Kulhanek of Fort Worth and Anthony and wife Violet of Highland Village, Texas; 10 nieces and nephews; one great-nephew and a very caring family friend, Judy Snyder.
