Bio
Marcella J. (Smid) Sklenar, age 97 of York, passed on July 25, 2024. Marcy was born to William and Mary Smid on April 21, 1927 at home on the family farm near Bruno, NE. She wed Ernest J. Sklenar on May 6, 1946 in David City, NE. They were blessed with 3 children Steven, Marilyn and Nancy. Together Marcella and Ernest enjoyed fishing and hunting, crafting, baking, puzzles, crosswords and spending time with family. She had the biggest green thumb and grew numerous kinds of flowers, plants and vegetables throughout her life. One of her favorite things to do was create themed Christmas ornaments for all the grandchildren. Marcy is survived by her 3 children and their spouses; her 10 grandchildrenk and their spouses: 15 great-grandchildren and 6 great- great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother and sister and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ernie, sister Mildred, brother Leonard and son-in-law William Heiden. Services will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church in York, on Friday, August 2, 2024 with a Rosary said at 9:30 a.m., followed by the Mass of Christian burial at 10:00 a.m., the Reverend Father John Sullivan officiating. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in York.
