WW1 Private Company D 321st Machine Gun Battalion 82nd Infantry Division. Distinguished Service Cross, Purple Heart and WW1 Victory Medals. The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private Louis Yaeger (ASN: 2253657), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company D, 321st Machine-Gun Battalion, 82d Division, A.E.F., near Pont-a-Mousson, France, 12 September 1918. Private Yaeger, with his brother, Corporal Roy Yaeger, remained at an advanced position in the face of heavy machine-gun and rifle fire from the enemy and, by effective use of their machine-gun and pistols, covered the withdrawal of the infantry, inflicting serious losses on the enemy and refusing to retire until they were ordered to do so.
