Mavis Outlaw August 7, 1935 — July 9, 2024 Born on August 7, 1935, Mavis Outlaw, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away July 9, 2024. Mavis's life was a tapestry woven with love, strength, and faith. She grew up in the Lyons-Somerville area, where she developed a deep connection to nature and family values. One of her fondest memories was teaching her son the art of hunting, passing down traditions that would be cherished for generations to come. In a twist of fate, Mavis met her husband Lloyd on a blind date. She declared she would never go out with him again. However, destiny had other plans, and six months later, they stood together at the altar, beginning a lifelong journey of love and companionship. Mavis was known for her loving and caring nature that was tempered with a strong will and determination. She embraced life with grace and kindness, always putting her family first. Her warm smile and generous spirit touched everyone around her. A woman of faith, Mavis was raised in the Lutheran tradition and held steadfast to her religious beliefs throughout her life. Her unwavering devotion inspired all who knew her and served as a guiding light through both joyous and challenging times. Beyond her roles as a wife and mother, Mavis found joy in simple pleasures. She had a knack for finding beauty in everyday moments and always had a kind word to share. Her love for reading, gospel music, birdwatching, and playing bingo brought her immense happiness. Her biggest pleasure was spending time with her grandkids and great grandkids. One of Mavis's proudest accomplishments was embodying unconditional love in all aspects of her life. She showered her family with affection and taught them the true meaning of compassion and understanding. Mavis was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Outlaw in 2003; her parents, Herman and Alvina Schultz; and siblings, Herman and Dene Schultz, Esther and Emil Kizer, and Curtis Schultz. Mavis leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue to shine brightly through those who survive her: children, grandchildren, special grandchildren great-grandchildren, siblings, and many other relatives and friends who will cherish her memory forever. May we find solace in knowing that Mavis Outlaw's spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to have known her. May she rest in peace knowing that she was deeply loved and will be dearly missed. -- Hillier Funeral Home -- names of living relatives removed for privacy
