Bio

Hartley Ford Waters, 91, of Cedar Park, left this earth to be with Jesus, on August 14th 2023. He was surrounded by his children and loving wife. God needed someone to wake up the roosters. Hartley was born on March 26, 1932 to Jesse James Waters and Agnes Dittrich Waters in San Antonio, TX. The family moved to Irving where Hartley attended school. He often talked about his time in Irving and the heat which forced them out to the sleeping porch. He spent many hours watching out for his older sister Tuti while his older brother Jesse fought in WW2. After they lost Jesse in the war and the war ended, the family moved to Austin. Hartley left school after 7th grade to work on the family farm. Hartley joined the Navy in 1952 and served in the Korean War. His Naval Career also took him to Italy, France, Germany and other places along the Mediterranean Sea. He worked on the USS Walter B. Cobb in the boiler room. The ship was charged with delivering the underwater demolition team, which today is referred to as the Navy Seals, to their destinations. In July of 1955, Hartley met Doris at the carnival at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock. He knew at first sight he was going to marry her and it did not take too long for Doris to be convinced. They married on June 29, 1956 ( yes, they were married for 67 years). They had three children, Sheila, James and Brian. The family enjoyed trips in the Minnie Winnie and day trips to area theme parks. Hartley worked as a Master Electrician at The University of Texas, Round Rock ISD and Logston Electric. Hartley was on a first name basis with numerous automobile dealers (he owned 127 cars and trucks), and his car passion added some extra gray hair to his nephew Russell Waters. He enjoyed boating and country rides. He was the kind of man who would give the shirt off his back to those in need and spent a good amount of time helping people with home renovations and odd jobs. He was an artist, dabbling in painting, woodworking, and even in architecture. He was a great dad and loved giving fatherly advice. He loved being a Grandpa and a Pawpaw and a Popo. He was so good at this role that he had three "grandpa" names. Hartley was predeceased in death by his parents, Jesse James Waters Sr. and Agnes Dittrich Waters, his brother, Jesse James Waters Jr., and his sister, Janie Lucille Milligan. He is survived by his wife, Doris Marie Waters, and his brother, Courtney Baxter Waters (Diane Waters), his children, Sheila Waters Holland (Jerry Holland), James Kenneth Waters (Amy Waters), Brian Lee Waters, and his grandchildren, Beau and Austin Koble, Claire, North, Reid and Connor Waters. Services will be held at Life Church 1393 E. Woodview dr. Building B Leander ,TX. 78641 on August 26th at 10:00 AM. Casual dress perfered, his favorite color was red. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Opportunities for Williamson and Burnet Counties , http://owbc-tx.org
