Bio

James Preston Norris, 92, passed away Monday, May 26, 2008, at a nursing home in Amarillo. Funeral: 3:30 p.m. Thursday in Greenwood Chapel. Interment: Greenwood Memorial Park. Preston was born April 16, 1916, in Farmersville and was educated in Paris and Amarillo. He was president of Market Decorators, based in Fort Worth and also president of Randol Mill Beef Lockers in Arlington. Mr. Norris was the youngest of 13 children of W.I. and Nancy Royal Norris of Anniston, Ala., and Atlanta Ga., respectively. He was a member of Broadway Baptist Church in Fort Worth and a charter member of McDavid Sunday School Class of Polk Street Methodist Church and later in life of the Church at Quail Creek, both in Amarillo. Mr. Norris moved to Amarillo from Paris in 1927. He moved to Fort Worth in 1944, returning to Amarillo in 1981, and remaining there. In the 1920s and early '30s he loved to hunt in the bluffs northwest of Amarillo, now the hospital district. Mr. Norris was preceded in death by his parents; 12 siblings; a young son, Donald Alan Norris and wife, Donnie; first wife of 52 years, Maureen Wright Norris; second wife, Roxy Conner Norris of Amarillo; stepdaughter, Billie June Pustejovsky; and stepgranddaughter, Debbie Young of Amarillo. Survivors: Daughters, Sylvia Gail Fischbein of Bedford and Sally Swan and husband, Dale, of Amarillo; granddaughter, Keri Freund and husband, Kevin, of Hurst; great-granddaughters, Christy and Jillian Beifus of Hurst; stepgrandchildren, Nathan Swan and Tandra Peters of Austin, Haley Osteen of Amarillo, Jeremy Swan of Peru, South America, and Hilary Young of Michigan; stepson-in-law, Adolph Pustejovsky; stepgranddaughters, Pam Daniel and Terry Mix; and stepgreat-granddaughter, Bree Webb, all of Amarillo.
