Benedict "Ben" L. Steager Ben Steager, 78, of Brainard, died Thursday, June 6, 2024 in Lincoln. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 12, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Brainard with Fr. Steven Snitily officiating. Visitation will be on Tuesday, from 5 until 7 p.m. at the Church with a Parish Rosary at 7 p.m. Burial will be at Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery with lunch following at the Brainard American Legion Hall. Born June 17, 1945 in David City to Louis and Mary (Hanus) Steager, the youngest of three sons. He graduated from Aquinas High School in 1963, enlisted in the Army National Guard and was honorably discharged in 1970. Ben started working for Brainard Co-op in 1966. On Dec 27, 1969 he married Donna Rae Matejcek. Three sons were born to the union, Robert (Lisa) of Brainard, David (Michelle) of Lincoln, and Aaron of Valparaiso. The couple lived on the family farm near Brainard, where they farmed and raised cattle. He retired from Frontier Co-op in 2007. Ben was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Brainard American Legion. He kept busy outside, watched his westerns and enjoyed playing cards. He will be remembered for his smile, his kindness and willingness to help his neighbors. He is preceded in death by his wife, parents and brother Rich. Ben is survived by his three sons, brother Jerry, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
