Wyatt was the son of William Wyatt Mathews (1794-1867) & Jane A. Nichols (1803-1859). He married Lucinda "Ann" Wilder on 18 December 1866 in Mississippi. Sometime after their first child was born in 1868, they relocated to Milam County, Texas and then McLennan County, Texas. Wyatt remarried after Ann's death in 1912, to Annie Pierce. Before 1920, Wyatt moved back to Perry County, MS and later retired and died at the Jefferson Davis Beauvoir Soldier's Home in Biloxi, Harrison County, Mississippi. He is buried in the Soldier's Cemetery. Children: Rufus D.
