Bio

Shirley A. Reeves, 77, of Kearney, went to Heaven on Monday, April 29, 2024. A Celebration of Life service and luncheon will be held on Saturday, May 18th , from 12:00-1:00 p.m. with reception to follow from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at the Riverdale Community Center in Riverdale, NE. Shirley was born in Ord, Nebraska on July 15, 1946, the first of five children born to Edward F. and Lydia R. (Penas) Proskocil. She was raised in Ord and attended Ord High School, graduating with the class of 1964. On September 15, 1965, Shirley was united in marriage to Steve Reeves in Vermillion, SD and to this union two daughters were born. The couple made their home in Kearney where Shirley worked on the sales floor and as office manager of Sears in downtown Kearney for 26 years. She later worked at Culligan Water in Kearney for many years before retiring. Shirley will be remembered for her kind and generous nature. One of her greatest joys in life over her 58 years of marriage was spending time and doing work with her husband Steve on their acreage. They spent many years gardening, canning, splitting wood, caring for animals and riding their horses. Throughout her life she found great joy in spending time with all of her family members doing various activities together such as camping, family gatherings at area lakes, and attending many other family events, celebrations and activities. She was a proud wife, mother and grandmother. Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Steve Reeves of Kearney; daughters, Stephanie (Andrew) Van Campen of Holdrege and Shauna (Tony) Kuszak of Loup City; grandchildren, Hannah and Bryce Van Campen and Carter Kuszak; sister, Linda (Les) Hansen of Kearney; brothers, Vern (Pam) Proskocil of Kearney, Eugene Proskocil of Ord and Robert Proskocil of Ord; as well as a host of many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
