Bio

About one of her sons Bowling Wilkerson was born 2 October 1827 in Putnam County, Georgia. Son of Lemual Wilkerson and Nancy Bowling. He was living near Sulligent, Alabama at the outbreak of the Civil War where he was Justice of the Peace and School Master. He was one of the first to enlist in the Sixteenth Alabama. Apparently he died at the bloody Battle of Shiloh. There had been diligent searches at the time with failure to discover any trace of him. It is supposed he lies in an unmarked grave on the field he so bravely defended. His wife, Elizabeth, has pension papers with signed testimony by another soldier who said he was last seen in battle at Shiloh.
