Bio

Edward New married Mattie Bradley on 20 January 1876 in Iredell, Texas. She preceded him in death. Edward Spencer New was born February 12, 1854, in Mayfield, Kentucky. Came to Texas with his parents in 1857. His parents located first in Waxahachie. At the close of the Civil War, his parents moved to Bosque County and settled near Morgan. He lived there until 1894 when they bought a place near Iredell where he was raised to young manhood. He married Miss Mattie Baker on May 1878. To this union six children were born. His wife died in 1905. The following children survive: Mrs. Minnie McAdoo of Iredell, Horatio New of Scottsdale, Arizona, Mrs. Laura Pike of El Paso, Harry New of Lott, Texas, Mrs. Mattie Gardner of El Paso, Edward New of Big Harbor, Wash. He was converted and joined the Baptist Church at New Hope in the summer of 1898. He lived a true christian life until death which came on Monday, October 26 at the home of his daughter, Ms. Jim McAdoo at 4:45 P.M. He leaves the following brothers and sisters - Mrs. J.A. McGehee of Morgan, Mrs. John Gilpin of Morgan, Will New of clifton, Robt. New of Whitney, Jim New of Morgan, Mrs. Frank McClure of Robert Lee. He was confined to his bed for a long time but bore his affliction with patience. He left a testimony that he was ready to go home and be at rest. The funeral of this good man was held Tuesday afternoon in the Baptist Church by Revs. Kirchner of Meridian and Malcus Shannon of Iredelll.
