Bio

A Memorial Service for Sue Haile, 71, will be held at 11:00 am on May 10, 2024 at the First United Methodist Church. The family will have visitation before the service from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. A Graveside Service will be held at 4:00 pm that same day in Stratford, Texas, at the cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 4:30 to 5:30 at the Christian Church in Stratford. Sue always considered Stratford, Texas, as her home even though she had been gone for 50 years. Mrs. Haile passed from this life on April 29, 2024 in Childress. She attended Clarendon College, graduated from Tarleton, and got her teaching certificate from San Houston State. She first taught Home Economics and was the cheerleader sponsor for three squads in Monahans. She then received her Library Science certification from the University of Texas. She shared a story about her time in Austin, "I looked at the capital every day and thought, 'What the Heck am I doing here?' "Sue's conclusion was that her time in Austin was well spent because it is where she made good friends and got her certification to be a librarian. She then became the District Librarian for Childress ISD for 21 years. Sue also served as Student Council sponsor and class sponsor over the years. Sue was active in community activities that ranged from 4-H leader, president of several civic clubs, volunteering in the Childress thrift store, and driving others to doctors' appointments in Amarillo, Lubbock, and Wichita Falls. Sue also made and sold Flying V Barbeque Sauce which was an old family recipe. She was also part owner of the Star of Texas RV Park and Horse Hotel in Stratford, Texas. She loved to travel and go places and had attended several Olympics events around the world. She had always had dogs or cats. Her current dog was Mazie, a rescue Boxer, who shared her house with her. She lived in the same house in Childress for over 30 years for which she had done many improvements during her time there. She had installed a pool in her backyard where she spent most summer afternoons. Everyone was invited to come and enjoy a swim or visit as they passed through Childress. The family that Sue leaves behind are a brother, Jack Haile, and his wife Barbara, and two nieces: Evan Haile, her husband Neil Turner, and their son Rowan; and Olivia Om. Also included are a close family of cousins, and a host of amazing friends. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Sherman County Library, PO Box 46, Stratford, Texas 79084, and the Methodist Church, 201 Ave D NE, Childress, Texas 79201.
