Military: Joe E. Berger, West, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Berger of Tours, entered the U.S. Army in 1942 and trained in Texas and New Orleans, Arizona and Kansas. He was a PFC and was awarded GCM and Victory Ribbon. He was discharged in 1945. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Obituary: Mr. Joe E. Berger, age 57, of 3004 Summer, Waco, died at 10:23 p.m. Thursday night, Sept. 27, 1979 in a local hospital. Rosary was held at 7 p.m. Sunday at Wilkirson-Hatch Chapel. Funeral services were at 9:30 a.m. Monday at St. Louis Catholic Church, Msgr. Mark Deering officiating. Burial followed in Waco Memorial Park. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Joe E. Berger of Waco; one daughter, Mrs. Robert G. (Mildred) Hux of Waco; one son, Jody Berger of Waco; five sisters, Mrs. Joe W. (Catherine) Filer of Tours, Mrs. Frank (Grace) Pavlicek of Tours, Mrs. Charlie (Elizabeth) Fajkus of Tours, Mrs. Albin (Bernadine) Pavlicek of Tours, Mrs. Mon T. (Dora) Cheves of Dallas, Tx.; two grandchildren. Active pallbearers were Wesley Filer, Larry Pavlicek, Charles B. Tooker, Steve Veselka, Raymond Polansky, Edward Snider.
